ABP History and Objectives

The ABP is a product of far-sighted industry cooperation. It was established in 1969 at the request of five widely diverse farm groups (the Alberta Cattle Breeders Association, Alberta Dairymen’s Association, Alberta Federation of Agriculture, Farmers Union of Alberta and the Western Stock Growers’ Association.

Mission

To strengthen the sustainability and competitiveness of the beef industry for the benefit of Alberta beef producers.

Competitiveness - Creating and maintaining an environment that enhances the competitive position of Alberta producers by:

  • Actively influencing policy and regulation
  • Providing leadership to practical research and innovation initiatives
  • Promoting beef products and the industry’s image

Sustainability - Enhancing the long-term sustainability of the production sector by securing access to:

  • Land and water resources
  • Domestic and international markets

ABP’s Long-Term Goals

  • Increase domestic and international demand for Canadian / Alberta beef.
  • Ensure long term sustainable access to land and water resources for the benefit of beef producers.
  • Influence government policy to enhance the competitiveness of Alberta beef producers.
  • Maintain and improve the beef industry’s positive public image.
  • Enhance the competitiveness of Alberta beef producers through research and innovation.
  • Secure and improve access for Canadian / Alberta beef to the US and selected international markets.
  • Engage and involve our producers in policy decisions, organizational direction and governance.
