Committees

ABP Committees and Working Groups are dedicated to strengthening Alberta’s beef industry.

Audit Committee

Audit committees are viewed as a critical component of the overall corporate governance process. The primary tasks of the ABP Audit Committee are to identify and monitor the management of principle risks that could impact financial reporting; monitor the integrity of the financial reporting process and the system of internal controls regarding financial reporting and accounting compliance; monitor the independence and performance of the external auditors; and provide an avenue of communication between the auditor, management, and the Board of Directors.

Governance Committee

The ABP Governance Committee (GC) is one of the standing Board committees prescribed in the ABP by-laws. This committee is tasked with establishing and reviewing the governance policies and practices of ABP and reporting its recommendations to the ABP Board of Directors.

Issues Management Committee

The Issues Management Committee’s primary role is to provide strategic advice to the ABP Board of Directors on emerging issues and producer resolutions impacting the agricultural industry.

Research Committee

ABP’s producer-led Research Committee invests producer check-off dollars into research to improve the competitiveness, sustainability, and profitability of beef producers.

Proposals undergo a scientific technical review and then are evaluated by the producer representatives on the ABP research committee. Decisions consider scientific merit as well as benefits for the beef sector in the short, medium or long term.

Wildlife Working Group

The Wildlife Working Group was established to address the growing challenges faced by beef producers, stemming from both the increasing impact of ungulates on agricultural operations and the rising losses attributed to large predators. The group’s immediate focus has been on developing a comprehensive strategy to address producer concerns related to predator depredation, which has received strong support from the Board.
