Advocating for predator loss compensation programs

  • Date Published: March 16, 2025

Whereas

  • Some producers continue to suffer significant predation losses of their cattle to grizzly bears, wolves and other predators without fair and appropriate compensation.
  • Those predation losses can be financially crippling.
  • There are not enough resources and tools available to producers to control problem predators, including under-staffed Conservation Officers, ability to cull problem predators etc.
  • These conflicts of predators with cattle are extremely stressful and sometimes dangerous for producers.
  • Alberta Beef Producers’ policy on wildlife does not include provisions for trapping problem predators.

Be it Resolved

That ABP continue to advocate for better response, better tools, and better compensation programs for producers to cope with predator losses of their cattle.
