Whereas

• The Veterinary Professional Act in Alberta exempts surgical operations such as castration, dehorning and hoof trimming, and no surgical operations such as a semen collection and artificial insemination.
• The AVMA has asked the Alberta government to allow Health Technologist to be allowed to pregnancy test under the act and under veterinary supervision.
• Pregnancy testing is a non-invasive procedure that does not involve surgery or medicine, regardless if performed by human manipulation or by ultrasound.

Be it Resolved

That ABP lobby the Alberta Government to amend the Veterinarian Professional Act – Statutes of Alberta, under Scope of Practice – Section 2(2) to include in the exception “Any person engaged in pregnancy testing of cattle.”
